Current Projects & Dates
Presented by Word of Warning + Contact
Friday 24 + Saturday 25 April 2015, 8pm
Our annual sampler of what’s next in contemporary performance and live art — pushing the boundaries of form and content. To date, Works Ahead has brushed the petticoats of dance, skirted the fringes of musical theatre, warped the lines of performance installation, and delved into the mindset of the performer…
2015 sees new works in development by two young male artists, questioning manliness in this digitised, disembodied, discombobulated era:
A coming of age story for a hyper-connected world.
A world convinced it’s dying.
A world that’s no longer good enough.
A world where it’s not the length that matters, but what you do with it.

I WISH YOU WERE HERE
Blurby bit on programs below – trailer: HERE
Nathan Birkinshaw is a performer and theatre maker from Wakefield, creating work that’s honest and funny, with a minimalist lo-fi approach, he aims to pick out the absurdity in the notion of humanity.
Nathan’s recent work That Night Recurring was recently commissioned by Drunken Chorus: Drunken Nights supported by the Arts council England.
‘I wish you were here’ A new work that comically aims to look at loss, love and loneliness and what it means to let things go. He probably won’t get it right, but his heart is on the line. He’s as sorry as usual.
Created with support from Slunglow’s the HUB in Leeds, Hannah Woods (She came in one day and bossed me about one day), and 70/30 Split (give me extensive feedback)
With special thanks to his Mum and Dad, Walton Jr School Class of 1999, Matthew Pearce and a ex-lover who can’t be named for legal reasons.
Run time 30 mins approx
